My Story

I sketched as a child, but I started painting seriously at 36, with no formal training or mentor. I taught myself by experimenting with materials, colour, technique and composition — one painting at a time.

The first painting I finished and truly felt proud of was bought by an art collector. Soon after, two of my paintings from my first group exhibition were collected before the exhibition had even officially opened. These early experiences gave me the confidence to believe that painting could be more than a passion. I took the leap and became a full-time professional artist.

In the beginning, I was drawn to nature and human connections, and much of my work focused on landscapes and portraits. Portraiture, in particular, found an audience beyond India, and for five years, I dedicated myself almost entirely to painting portraits.

Over time, though, I felt myself being pulled towards expressionism — towards a way of painting that allowed me to explore not just what I saw, but what I felt. My work began moving away from strict realism towards a more contemporary approach, with looser brushwork, stronger colour and more room for interpretation.

Today, I find myself drawn to people, relationships, childhood, nature, light and the small moments that often go unnoticed. I observe gestures, movement, changing light and everyday interactions. Sometimes, it is a fleeting expression or an ordinary moment between people that stays with me long enough to become a painting.

The more I paint, the more I realise that my work evolves as I do.

**I'm still learning, still experimenting and still evolving.**
